Topic: Finding Synergies between Fighting HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria and Achieving UHC

On October 26 and 27, 2015, Africa Japan Forum hosted an international workshop titled gFinding Synergies between Fighting HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria and Achieving UHCh in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. Co-organizer of the event was the Global Fund Advocated Network (GFAN), the international civil society network that advocates for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund). Total of 20 civil society activists and experts on HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria issues and the global health policies joined the workshop - from Asia, Africa and other regions of the world - and discussed the prospects of creating synergies between the big three disease-control programmes and Universal Health Coverage. As the outcome of the two-day discussions, Africa Japan Forum, GFAN and endorsing organizations put together the civil society position statement, gPeoplefs Health Comes First.h

From 2006 to 2008, KUSAKABE spent days in Ghana, where she worked with people with disabilities (PWD) in an HIV awareness project as a volunteer at the Planned Parenthood Association. She made friends with many PWDs and learned that some of them hardly had opportunities of going out. Now, inspired by TODA's book, she writes about memories of friends with disabilities in Africa.

YADATSU spent one year in Ghana as a student of Ghana University, where she was surprised by a strike by the University Teachers' Association. And she got disappointed that teachers' words on peace-building in African countries were same as in UK, USA etc. But she learned about environmental problems in Ghana, which made her pay more attention to the idea of equity in Japan. Now, she studies pollution issues in Japan.

70 years since the end of the World War II, 40 years since Mozambiquefs Independence from Portugal, 20 years since the start of eTransforming Guns into Hoesf and 10 years since the foundation of Ehime Global Network have made nowadays relations between Japan and Mozambique. TAKEUCHI features a unique effort of eTransforming Guns into Artf and its effects. 2 years ago, National Museum of Ethnology held an exhibition gTransforming Guns into Art: Peace building in Mozambiqueh. It makes a way to another exhibition at Tokyo University of Arts this October.
